Condensor replacement 700 1990

Guys,

You all are correct, my leak is in the condensor (not the evaporator as I previously posted). I have called the local parts places and do not find one available. Does anyone have a good source to order this part from. Thanks for all the advice on the other post. It really looks simple to replace. I have a brother in law who says we can charge the system with some r12 he stocked up on seveal years ago. He uses gages but can not pull a vaccum on the system. He says if we hurry we should be ok (he is Ford certified so does that count now). The system was working great and we will try to do this this week. Also we live in nashville and it can get pretty hot here. We often see the bumper sticker that says "I know Hell is hot but it is humid". Thanks for all your advice.

Steve

Re: Condensor replacement 700 1990

If you're going to keep R12 in the system, then do it right and get a new condensor. They are NOT expensive, and if you look at napaonline.com, you might even find one there. Not sure about that, but it's possible. I'm sure that they're available on the aftermarket, or you can go to a dealer and get it there. It does cost you, but if you get one from a salvage yard, you do run the chance of the thing springing a leak after a short time (or maybe right away) and wasting that expensive R12.

I'd personally do the Volvo parts 134a conversion with the new, appropriate condenser, since you now have a reason, and then to hell with any part in the system. If it leaks later on, just keep recharging. And you won't have to worry about the 134 getting away if you change the compressor or something else blows a gasket somewhere. With the R12, you're out a LOT of money if you can't get someone's stash of R12.

Ford Certified or whatever, it isn't a problem.

If you can pull a vacuum you have a leak and it wil NOT hold the R12. Try your local wrecking yards for one. Also check some of the advertisers who advertise in Hemmings.
