Help me find a LSD! 700 90

This weekend, I was picking through the local wrecking yard, and was hoping to come across a Volvo with LSD that someone else may have overlooked. No such luck.

Then it occurred to me that the one I'm looking for is a Dana 30. What other cars/trucks besides the Jeep CJ family does the Dana 30 occur in? I appreciate your collective wisdom on this, as I'll be headed back to the U-Pull it this coming weekend to get some other bits I forgot.

By the way, I found out that Pugeots have these really cool wiring harnesses for relays. The plugs have these clips that lock into a slotted bracket. The bracket itself is spot welded onto the engine bay of the Pugeot, but it's not hard to make one yourself out of thin sheet aluminum or steel. I'm planning on doing the headlight relay upgrade, and thought this would make a very trick, if not clean installation. Also, if you take your time and unwrap all the harnesses on the donor car, you'll get more than enough heavy gauge wiring to do whatever installation you happen to be working on.

Just thought you might be interested...

Re: Help me find a LSD! 700 90

Nick,

Just Check with a local rear end shop. I went to my local shop in Corvallis (50k people) and they had a used Dana 30 LSD that they had just put new clutches into. They charged me $150 for the part. I then had them install it with new bearings, seals, Speedo pickup, and a new ratio for the rear. (V-8 Mod) Total cost was ~$900. It was on the high side for labor, but they have a good reputation and worked with me so I could send out the rear housing for powdercoating and a few other mods.

Good luck!

PS, I was doing a 1031 rear housing. This has a larger ring/pinion gear. The volvo Pinion bearing size is "unique" so Volvo (or SAM) is the only place you can buy a new gear set. I opted for a good low mileage set out of an old 240 to get the right ratio.

Try, www.bdparts.com I got my LSD for a 91' 240 there. $150. You ask for a "Anti-spin" rear. This outfit is owned by Ford Mo Co. They have new and used Volvo-Ford parts as well as all other makes as used parts. They have a accurate computer inventory, they can tell you in seconds if they got your part. They disasemble everything (no cutting tourches) and ship world wide.

Last time I was there they had 1000's of Volvos, and 32 2001 Nissin Pathfinders cut neatly in half, (flood damaged I guess). Anyway, lots of cool stuff.

A Pugeot? What a French POS!!!

As for the Dana 30, talk to John Sargent. He just found one in a bone yard.

Re: Help me find a LSD! 700 90

Mr Bain,

Yep, I talked to John, and found out he got the LSD from the same wrecking yard I was at! I was looking through about 10 or so 700 wagons and sedans, and came across one that didn't have a motor, transmission, or rear axle. It was the only 700 series car that had it's rear end missing. I thought to myself, "I wonder if John Sargent got it?" Sure enough, he did.

Pugeots are crappy? They seem like nice looking cars. I took pieces of the wiring harness from one. I hope they don't have harness rot like the older Volvos do...

Hey! The insulation and wiring on my 63 544 is in PERFECT shape! Its those NEWER Volvos (you know, 240 series) that have problems. :)

Now old British cars - LOOK OUT!
