Where's the Turn Signal Flasher? ALL 1980

Hi folks:

I just acquired a 1980 DL Station Wagon (Don't even know the model number yet), and the turn signals don't work.

I checked bulbs - okay (all four), fuse - okay, wiring to fuse box - okay. I don't hear the flasher, and then when I looked under the dash - yikes! I didn't see anything that looked like a (American - sorry but that's my only experience) flasher. I did see a rectangular thingy that was connected to about a dozen wires just above the steering column, but due to the prolific wires, I figured either that wasn't it or the car has twelve trun signals.

Anyway, can you tell me what it looks like and where to find it?

Also, if you think I'm barking up the wrong wire bundle, maybe you migh thave an idea as to my problem.

Thanks much,

Re: Where's the Turn Signal Flasher? ALL 1980

Ron -

Remove the panel which covers the driver's side of the center control panel. The relay should be mounted in a clip on the vertical heavier metal support that that panel top bolt screws into. Usually it's just above the box that holds the radio.

Good Luck<

Bob

PS. Get some books, the Haynes (look on eBay) and - if it's available - the Volvo Service Manual Wiring Diagrams. www.volvocars.com/lit

Hint: Find the flasher while it still makes noise. ALL 1980

/// I've posted that before but it never takes hold. Any time the flasher is acting up find it then. After it dies... too late.

This is just a reminder to ALL. I didn't intend to pick on any one in particular.
