Where's the Turn Signal Flasher? ALL 1980

Hi folks:

I just acquired a 1980 DL Station Wagon (Don't even know the model number yet), and the turn signals don't work.

I checked bulbs - okay (all four), fuse - okay, wiring to fuse box - okay. I don't hear the flasher, and then when I looked under the dash - yikes! I didn't see anything that looked like a (American - sorry but that's my only experience) flasher. I did see a rectangular thingy that was connected to about a dozen wires just above the steering column, but due to the prolific wires, I figured either that wasn't it or the car has twelve trun signals.

Anyway, can you tell me what it looks like and where to find it?

Also, if you think I'm barking up the wrong wire bundle, maybe you migh thave an idea as to my problem.

Thanks much,
