New to Volvo

I am getting ready to buy my first Volvo wagon. I am looking for something around 3000-$4000 perhaps 1987-1991? I am wondering what to look for, what cars to avoid, any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Andrew

Re: New to Volvo

You have posted to the Rear Wheel Drive, RWD, forum part of the brickboard. Most of us here wouldn't consider a FWD car but be aware that some of the earlier 850 models might be down in that price range by now.

Re: New to Volvo 700 87

Hey there - welcome...

If you are looking for a turbo, I would suggest an 88 or newer, as the engines are stronger... (not that the earlier ones are weak...by american standards)

Anyhow, check for rust - especially under the front wheels where the suspension attaches to the frame... usually there will be no visible rust, only slight bubbling of the undercoating...ask me how I know...

I would tend to avoid the red or purple shades - as those colors tend to fade the fastest...

I really like my 87 740 wagon = it has 269,000 miles on it (with regular maintanance) and still runs like a champ.. (it is not a turbo..)

well, good luck and you may want to check www.carfax.com with the VIN of the car you are looking at.

Stefan
