What to do to a "New" 765ti with 119k 700 1989

I just bought an '89 765ti with 119k that was too good a deal to pass up. Now I am sorting out what I have, and need to do to it. The car runs well and very strong, but needs it's 100k major service and has an intermitantly working Automatic Climate-AC-Ventilation System.

I need advice on what I need to do to it, or should be thinking about, esp. regarding the Turbo which is a new item for me to ponder.

Here's what I am planning:

New Timing Belt and Tensioner (Last done at 44k!)

New Water Pump (Upper seal leaks)

New Hoses

Coolant flush

Tune-up (Plugs, Cap, and Rotor)

Flame Trap

Injector Cleaner

New Injector Seals

Auto Tranny Flush

PS Flush

Rear End Flush

Automatic Climate-AC-Ventilation System Service/Diagnosis/Fix/Torture!?!?

And then......???????????

Thanks!

Cory

Re: What to do to a "New" 765ti with 119k 700 1989

In addition to other posts:

1. Replace front suspension cone bushings...they're toast by now.

2. When you do the IPD swaybars, you'll undoubtedly have to replace the swaybar links since the bushes are gone...new bars come with bar-link bushings but not the bushing for the link where the bolt goes through it to the lower suspension arm. The bush is not a service item and the entire link gets replaced.

3. MAKE REALLY SURE OR REPLACE the little hose from the turbocharger to the turbo wastegate. If this hose dries out or cracks or more usually breaks off at one of the nipples, the engine boosts uncontrollably and generally throws a #1 rod through the block.

4. Consider replacing the voltage regulator brushes...cheapest, or replace the voltage regulator (comes with new brushes). I like to replace the brushes at 140K but since you have a 11-year old car with 119K...

5. Use SPP (silicone performance products) windshield wipers...more expensive than anco or whatever at Parts-R-Us but they last the longest. Supposed to be lifetime warranty.

6. Switch/flush all applicable fluids to synthetic. Amsoil highly recommended for ATF, engine, rear end.

7. Flush the brake fluid...check for sticking front caliper bushings and cracked/missing bushing boots.

8. Check for bent alloy rims...amazing how often this contributes to steering wheel shake, balance tires/wheels.

Re: What to do to a "New" 765ti with 119k 700 1989

Congrats on the purchase. Pretty good deal.

1. Read the 700/900 FAQ via the link below. You are on the right track with

all the maintenance. BTW, turbos have no flame trap.

2. Inspect the front end for wear, specifically the steering rack input

shaft for wear.

3. Upgrade your shocks.

4. Add IPD sway bars. These make the car handle quite well.

5. Consider higher boost levels.

6. Resolder your fuel pump relay, all the relays actually. It's a Don

Foster trick.

7. Hang out here a lot.

IPD

Higher Boost Levels
