Oil Filler Cap Leak, Flame Trap Jiggle 700 1991

I have read all hints, faq and detailed discussions of the PCV system.

I have replace breather box, flame trap element. The brass nipple in the manifold has been cleaned with a drill bit. Small hose attached to this

nipple and disptick oring are brand new. Oil filler cap gasket is also new.

The flame trap holder has been cleaned out.

I still have oil seeping from the filler cap and the cap is jiggling.

I thought I read somewhere that due to the new designed flame trap on this

year model, the car would not pass the jiggle test.

Any ideas, what to do about the oil seeping and the cap jiggle.

The jiggle test will only work with the lighter plastic cap. The metal caps will bounce around no matter what. Sounds like you have done all the required things. Try holding the cap just off the hole, lay it in and lift in and out lightly, you should feel a slight vacume. You can do this with flat of your hand as long as the engine is not too hot.

My 740 has vacume, I have installed a new cap gasket and it still seeps a bit, so i live with it.

Have you got the metal cap as my 1987 740TI? I read on one of the boards that plastic one is not heavy enough to sit tight. Like you I cleaned out all the usual things but did not replace trap. The metal cap now sits happily on the box with a smooth tickover and there is a very slight detectable vacuum. I fixed my cap leak with a slightly thicker gasket but it still concerns me that there was sufficient oil splashed up there to leak real bad.

I have the cap that is black plastic. It is metal inside.
