new turbo/discounted? 700 1992

Does anyone know of a place to buy a new turbo for my 740 wagon

that won't cost me an arm and a leg? I have seen prices anyhwere

from $800 up to $1,000. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanx!

One thing to try is going on Yahoo!, for example, and punching "turbo parts" in the search window; I got 55 sites the otherday, 'though many of those were 'repaeats', and some were for marine turbos, etc., but that still leaves a bunch to look thru. Other replies on BB will flood in, no doubt, too. Much Luck. -PD, '86 740 GLE straight6 Turbo-Diesel wagon, no toys :>)

A decent turbo shop could rebuild yours for about 500... good as new.

You might want to make really good friends with someone who works at one, it pays off big time.. the guy that works on my car(s) with me is good friends with a couple of guys at turbo specialties in Birmingham, al. He gets his stuff(and mine) fixed for next to nothing.

If you dont have a turbo to start with, grab one off of a car in a junkyard.. there's probably a volvo turbo floating around, even if there isnt, all it is is a Garrett T3, 300zx turbos had them i think, as did the 280zx turbos. The garrett was/is a fairly popular turbo, so finding one shouldn't be a big problem.

Good Luck and good hunting!

p.s. don't get one from a yard that "specializes" in volvo/european stuff. They'll have one, but they'll also rail you with the price.
