Re: Cutting out 900 1991

Hi, the recent message re: 900 Cutting out was posted by my dad - and I've tried unsuccessflly to rectify - vehicle is a 1991 940 2 litre with a B200F engine - Bosch 2.4 jetronic - auto trans. No problems up till now. As described, will not start off the ignition key without using gas. When, if, idles, is slow, approx 500rpm. Drives ok, but stalls when slowing down, and/or no gas. Sometimes very difficult to re-start. Engine management light (lamda sond) comes up. I've read codes out as 1-2-1 and 1-4-4. (I've also cleared, and same codes come back when light comes back). I've tested rising voltage on oxygen sensor - seems ok. Swapped air mass meter for one of known quantity from a friends 940 (it's still on his car and runs fine!) I've used the injector relay (radio suppression relay) off of my own 1989 740 B230ET - still no improvement. Taped up trunking from air mass meter to throttle 'just in case'!! Throttle position switch tested ok also. Constant idle problem? I don't have a substitute valve. Any ideas using this new info greatly appreciated. PS - thanks John, come Monday I can try to find ignition module (EZ1 16-K I think).

Re: Cutting out 900 1991

check your IDU readout and check the codes. EVen if the codes indicate O2 sensor and amm lack of signal (two codes) chances are it's the ignition amplifier. can only be checked by replacing with known good one.

Re: Cutting out 900 1991

Sounds like the old fuel pump relay solder joint problem. Check the 700/900 FAQ for more info.

When this happened to mine, I got all kinds of codes from OBD. The sudden cutting out generated a bunch of codes as a result of multiple absent ECU signals. Driving along and unplugging the relay replicated the codes.
