"V" wheel cover 200 1982

To those in the DC/Baltimore area,

I hit a nasty bump the other day, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me where to order another chrome "V" wheel cover, the kind that fits over the lugnuts?

Thanks,

Evan

One piece? there are 2 on ebay right now. I'm looking for two 2-piece ones for my '82. are the rear ones different from the front?

As far as I know all four wheels should take the same cover or hubcap, assuming that all four rims are the same size and style.

Once I went to a tire shop to get some new tires (duh, what else). When I got Bob back, his "V" hubcaps weren't on the rims but in the trunk. The guys at the shop said that they didn't mount Volvo hubcaps because they would fall off after leaving their shop. I guess they didn't know how to put them on correctly. I'm no shade-tree mechanic, but I've put on my own hubcaps and they haven't flown off yet.

I was curious, because I only have front ones on the car (came that way) they mount (it seems) on the dust cap for the wheel nut. naturaly, there is no dust cap in the back. what do they grab onto???

          Re: "V" wheel cover 200 1982

I *think* the outer part of that hubcap slides on the wheel rim itself, using the tension mounts on the backside of the hubcap. Then the "V" cap mounts in the middle of the outer part of the hub cap using similar mounts. If the mounts on the outer rim are weak or missing, that can cause the whole thing to fly off at the next pothole.

My hubcaps have the "V" with a black background. I've seen some hubcaps without the black background around the "V". I'm assuming they are otherwise similar.

If you have the steel wheel rims all around and are the same style and size, those hubcaps should fit on all wheels.

(If I'm wrong, please someone correct me.)

I stopped by the Volvo place and got 2 two-piece caps Friday. The rear ons hold onto a ridge on the rear hub...one I hadn't noticed. They look great, $15 Canadian each. The V surround is unpainted, but I might paint it to match the body colour. I will also paint the wheels body colour (black now) and throw on some crome beauty rims. Nice and classy.

If you are near Baltimore there is a junk yard called Crazy Ray's on Erdman St or Dr just north of the Harbor Tunnel. I was in there Saturday June 30 and I saw a few of them. They are the cheapest yard around. You may want to call Save More on Indian Head Highway in Forestville MD, I saw some there, also.

      Re: "V" wheel cover 200 1982

The one-piece "V" hubcap is harder to find because it comes loose from the clips holding it to holes between the lug nuts in the wheels. So, I guess most of them are on the side of the road next to yours.

If you can use the two piece hubcaps -- a seven-inch chrome ring with a three-inch center piece, black with chrome "V", there are plenty in the yards. Crazy Ray's has a second location nearer DC, in Jessup, between Rt. 174(?) and 32 on Rt. 1. Price $5. + $1 to get in.

Click the link below and look under used parts. The first one is in NJ and the second one is in MD, so shipping should be cheap either way.
