adding salvaged cruise cont. to 1980 242gt 200 1980

Hello all: Whats the best year car/s to salvage cruise control parts for my 1980 242GT? I have the rally sport speedometer, I got almost complete sets from an 82 and 85 yesterday, can I make them work? The black bot I found is the later dana type and I have the matching vacum rervo to go with it. The throttle wheel I got is from the 82 and looks like it'll fit fine.

TIA,

Marcus

Re: adding salvaged cruise cont. to 1980 242gt 200 1980

I think the 82 will work the best. I think they changed the control above 84. The speed pick up is in the rear of your speeometer. I had to repair my 81 242 and took me a while. It took two black boxes and a vaccuum servo. Dana sold the cruise control division around 1990. The company that bought it told me our units are too old and far out of production. They told me I could buy one of their new units and modify it to fit my car. I did not want this so I went to the pick and pull for my parts. The Volvo repair book for the cruise really helped me and probably couldn't have fixed it without it. I also obtained the electrical book at the same time. This also helped out a lot and cleared up the picture. I think they cost me around $ 40.00. My unit is working now but it was a struggle . Good luck , stay with the parts around our years.
