does not start after a few days in the garage! 700 89

Hi All:

I have a 780 Volvo for about a year. I inherited the car with a broken engine and replaced it with a 91 engine. However, the car ran perfect until I returned from holiday (2 weeks) when it did not want to start up the first time. I had the crank it over for quite a while and it came on. It ran fine however, when I do not use it for two days I have the same problem. Once it started that day it usually runs fine. That means it starts without hesitation. What could it be?

Kind regards,

Franz

Your fuel pressure regulator or the check valve may be gone, resulting in no fuel pressure over a certain length of time, therefore, long time to start while pressure builds up...

Franz -

Try letting it sit a normal amount of time with the negative battery cable disconnected. Either something is draining off charge or the battery itself is kaput.

Old batteries have some of the stuff that attaches to the plates get loose and fall to the bottom of the cell where it shorts out the plates which at least lowers available current and usually kills the battery eventually.

Good Luck,

Bob
