What size Mann filter replaces a Fram PF-20?

Hello and TIA -

When I had my first Volvo services, the tech (Volvo Trained, named Nils) told me that he always used a slightly larger than required filter. The Fram PF-20, AC PH-43, et al, are not the one listed for the B230F in any of the books at the AutoZone type stores.

When I change to Mann, the size in the eBay ads is no doubt the right size for the car and not the size I've been using. I like the size b/c its extra length makes it easier to remove and install.

Your ideas will be appreciated.

Thanks again,

Bob

Are you sure you mean PF-20? (That makes no sense) PH-20 exsits.

PH-20, however is NOT the correct thread size. Please check your part #, I can cross reference for you if you give me a good part #.

OK OK OK here's what I DO know re: what oil filters fit

Paul, you are correct. I mixed the PH with the PF and the AC with the Fram. Have bad sector on hard drive that shows itself in late night hours.

Over the years I have bought filters mainly on price (not having seen the cut-away on the BB last week). The Fram numbers are PH-43 or TH-43 (has ADB valve), Purolator L20081, STPD-406, AC PF-20, NAPA 1068, WIX 51068, Motocraft FL-300, Target's Car&Driver SF-81, Bosch 3402. The prices have ranged from $5.95 (Fram TF-43) to $.94 (Target on Clearance Sale).

I haven't used all of those, just the Fram, AC, Target, Purolator, Target, at one time or another since my first brick in 1977.

Still - What is the Mann number that will replace the above size? I have all the Freudian S*** (stuff, of course) that I need. So I am not asking for a straight answer, just a number. Napoleon I can understand after his being on the single-gender Isle of Elba for so long.

TIA

Bob

Straight Answer: Try Mann W712/98 or W920/98

Fruedian Answer: Your mother and your father want you to use a better filter. Amsoil filters are better than Mann. Here's the part #'s and sizes:

Amsoil recommends SDF-42 (About the same as Mann W917) 4.00" long.

The size you maybe want is SDF-96 which is 4.375" long.

With my remote filter mount I use SDF-26 which is 7.125" long. With two of these babies my car holds 5+ qts oil, which is a good thing.

More Gestalt: ALL these filters we are talking about have 3/4x16 threads. The OD's are all about (or should be) 3.75". Gaskets sizes and thickness vary and that's why some are trial and error. The length (or height) do vary (you knew that)

Re: What size Mann filter replaces a Fram PF-20?

A Fram PH 16 should work if you want a Fram. Somewhere the filter size got changed from the PH 16 to the listed PH 7320( I believe that's the correct number). Anyhow the only difference is the height. The PH 16 is about 3/4" longer, diameter is identical.

Dick -

Yes, and the drain oil becomes Freudian slop.

Re: What size Mann filter replaces a Fram PF-20?

So Bob, you want a big Mann to do a Fram's job. Have you been listening to that Feminist propaganda again? Remember. It's not how big it is, it is what's inside that makes the difference....
