Brake Anti Squeal 700 1990

Hello,

I have a feeling this is a very dumb question, but I'm doing my rear brakes, and I'm about to replace the pads. I read a tip over at SwedishBricks.com that said to apply some Permatex Anti-Squeal compound to the back of the pad to help avoid brake squeal.

But I'm not sure if the compound goes between the piston and the shim, or between the shim and the pad! Can somebody advise me on this before I make what I think could be a big mistake?

Thanks,

Jay R.

Re: Brake Anti Squeal 700 1990

It probably wouldn't hurt to put it on both locations. Also make sure to put the lube on the clips or whatever hardware you have in there. Also make sure to clean and lube your caliper sliders. Info is somewhere in the archives or FAQ.

It may be different, but on my 240s, I don't use shims at all. I have been putting the permatex green goo between the pads and pistons (and other places), and I have not had any brake squeal. One car has PBR pads, and the other has carbon metallic pads. The reason I did this was to ensure a solid brake pedal feel.
