rough idle 1800 1972

I still havent found the cause of my rough idle. I have elimenated just about everything except the injectors. It only happens when the engine is fully warmed up and it has been shut off and then restarted. But it idles great after being driven a few blocks or when started cold. I think that a leaky injector may be leaking fuel after shuting off the engine thus flooding that cylinder. A cold engine would have no fuel pressure untill started thus no leaking. When idling correctly it tends to be a little fast which could also be from the extra fuel. Any thoughts on this and how to test for this would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: rough idle 1800 1972

Thad,

I'd sure be suspicious of the injector seals. With the engine cold and idling, shoot a stream of carb cleaner at the base of each injector. There will be a noticeable change if any of it gets sucked in past the seals. Personally, I like using water in a small plant mister for this job. If any seal is gone then replace the whole lot. They do dry out and shrink after 10 or 20 years.
