No Clutch Pedal 200 84

My clutch pedal is now on the floor. I'm sure there are worn parts, but I need to get it back to it's normal position to take it to a shop. Can someone send me instructions on adjusting the cable on an M46 clutch cable? I had to get home from Manhattan shifting by turning the car off and starting in second!

Thanks in advance,

Re: No Clutch Pedal 200 84

The adjuster is a large plastic threaded piece that threads into a plastic nut at the bell housing. Crawl under the car and it will be obvious. BUT, you should pull the rubber boot around the clutch fork and inspect inside the bellhousing. IF it smells burnt and there are lots of pieces of schredded stuff in there, the clutch is toast!. Often, if the friction disk disintegrates, pieces will jam between the pressure plate and flywheel, effectively keeping you from disengaging the clutch. Also, if the pedal went to the floor rather quickly, then it is also possible that the cable is broken or is about to break - as individual strands break, the remainder of the cable starts to stretch. Adjust away, but if it needs adjusting in another few weeks, you better get a new cable.
