On again, off again Cruise Control 700 1990

On my way to a 380 mile drive, a funny (understatement)thing happened to the cruise control and wiper of my 780 turbo. First, the cruise conrol; I had some difficulty engaging the cruise control. After a brief stop and restarting the car, the cruise control would either engage easily or it takes some few minutes of running before it would engage. Also, when I hit uneven road and the car would bounce up and down, the cruise control would automatically disengage.

Then, when it started to rain, I switched on the wiper to the intermittent speed and it just didn't work. I tried squirting some wiper fluid to entice the wiper work but it didn't. No wiper fluid and no intermittent speed function. However, if I move it to the slow and fast speed the wiper worked. I am puzzled on these two occurrences. Any ideas and help would greatly be appreciated. BTW, prior to this long journey, both cruise control and wiper were working normally. Thank you.

Re: On again, off again Cruise Control 700 1990

The cruise cut-out switch at your brake (and clutch) pedal is probably right on the hairy edge and needs readjustment (switch has a black/white wire). Also check the brake light switch function and adjustment as it too appears somehow involved (it's the other switch with a green/yellow wire). Other possibilities are dirty fuses, loose wiring and dirty switch contacts, including main cruise switch on steering column.

As to intermittent wiper not happening, you're either looking at a faulty wiper switch, a faulty wiper relay or the contacts inside the wiper motor are worn. Because you say the washer pump isn't working with intermittent wipe then it's most likely the wiper switch as the relay isn't really involved in the washer function. But in case I'm wrong (wouldn't be the first time), get a wiring diagram and isolate the problem with a meter. Relay should be back row, second from right.
