No Air on Steep Hills 700 1990

I have a 1990 760 with auto climate control. On the last interstate trip I took I noticed that when I needed to climb a steep hill the air would stop blowin (or at least I didn't feel it blowin out of the vents) by the time I would get to top of the hill. I just had the compressor changed and the whole system retrofitted for 134A. All the work was performed by Volvo. Please tell me that Im not havein to go into to dash!!!!! Any thing better's than that!! Thanks in advance fellow bricksters.

Re: No Air on Steep Hills- Been there before 700 1990

Hi,

I had similar experiance with my 940GLE. It has auto ECC unit. It only happens whenever I press the eccelerator down hard or drive on hilly roads (which is pressing the pedal down quite a bit). If I am cruising on coastal road the A/C was fine. When I overtake with hard press of pedal the A/C blower would slow down.

I am not sure about your model but if there is no air leak or vacuum leak then it could be the A/C vacuum valve (not sure the exact name). My car had two of them at the fire wall behind the engine and my A/C mechanic told me to change both. After I changed them, the problem went away. So have your A/C vacuum valve checked and if necessary replaced.

Hope this will solve your problem.

Re: No Air on Steep Hills 700 1986

Even the vent air doesn't blow in my '86 740 gle sedan when the engine is under load. I thought that was normal! I thought it was some kind of "fan" thing, and not related to the AC itself.

Re: No Air on Steep Hills 700 1990

had an '89 780 that wouldn't blow air out of the ACC when the turbo was boosting. If I were you, I'd suspect a vaccum leak somewhere in the ACC. May have to go into the dash, or maybe not.
