looked in FAQ, neeed more help on manual sunroof 700 1990

I have a couple of questions on sunroof fixup and operation.

1. I read the FAQ on the sunroof fixup procedures.

I cannot get through the first step - "release the spring clips from the sunroof lining". Then FAQ says that there is one spring on each side.

What I found instead was two springs on each side of the sunroof - a thicker and a thinner one. Which one needs to be removed? Or both?

2. The sunroof in the vent position opens up only about 1 inch. Is that normal or it needs adjustment?

3. Is it possible to remove the sunroof lining - the fabric on mine is loose and flaps in the wind?

Thanks!

Re: looked in FAQ, neeed more help on manual sunroof 700 1990

The spring clips are U shaped. There is one set per side. Just flip the SR up to the vent position, use your needle nosed pliers to squeeze the clips inward until they pop out of the holes in the SR. The vent flap will then lay flat and can then be pushed back into the space between the roof and the headliner.

It's been a while since I wrote those procedures and I haven't needed to fix my SR again, so I'll check my car tonight and make other suggestions if you need more help.

1) I'm not sure where you're seeing the springs. I've only seen one per side on my 700s. They are seen when the sunroof is in the vent position and the interior panel is pulled down (looking into the cracked sunroof from the outside of the car). If you do have two per side I would say that both should be removed.

2) I get about 1.5 inch lift on my sunroof (if you can't your fingers in the opening you won't be able to get the springs loose).

3) To get the lining out I took the whole sunroof off, which is pretty easy once the springs are loose and the lining is free to slide back and forth. However, that panel does not like to come out (I really forced mine -both out and back in), so I would suggest trying to reupholster it in the car (though that's not much fun either).
