Thanks all..... 200 89

Guy was supposed to come this afternoon, but showed up this morning. Did it in minutes, was already done when I got to the body shop. I'll be on the lookout for leaks, but otherwise the new one looks great.

Appreciate all your answers, and I'll post the brand if anyone's interested.

I used to read here that Pilkington was Volvo's OEM for glass.

Re: Are all replacement windshields created equally? 200 89

A few years back I had to replace the windshield in my 83 Turbo. I had it replaced with NON OEM (el cheapo) new style glass. RESULT - You get the feeling you are looking through a pair of perscription glasses, things are not distorted but they tend to look closer than they are. Maybe I just got a bad one, I do'nt know, but there was definitely a change, and it is different than my 84 240 with OEM glass. I just went down to the garage to take a look at it, brand name VIRACON.

GOOD LUCK,

I have a viracon windshield too, but mine doesn't seem distorted (fortunately). Oh well, for $130, what do you want. I figure I can get 2 for the price of one, and keep some clear glass in front of me.

One thing about the Viracon windshield is that it handles stone and debris hits pretty freakin' well... I've taken some real big ones to the glass and come out with only minor dings.

As long as it's not PPG, you should be fine.

Good luck.

You won't get the cool Volvo logo on the cheaper winshield.

I've had no problems with the cheaper winshields as long as they are installed properly (leaky windshields are bad here in seattle :-)

Carl: Check your insurance co. Most policies out west here have free replacement for damaged safety items including windshields (like break, crack, stone chips, sandblasted, etc..). Good luck, name withheld incase some snoopy insurance agent hates Volvos.
