Should flame trap holder side port be clear?? 200 1990

I just replaced the flame trap on a B230F engine in a 1990 245. When I disconnected the hoses the small side hose dripped a little oil. I tried to clean the trap holder with carb cleaner and tried to run a small wire through the side port to the main body of the holder. It appeared clogged, the wire did not go completely through to the inside of the main body of the holder.

Should this simply be replaced also??

Should there be a complete orifice through to the main body?

Yes, it goes all the way through. Try a drill bit.

Great suggestion. I wasn't sure of the diameter of the hole. I thought it may be a small opening and not as large as the hole in the where the hose fits.

I found a hair line fracture in the holder and thought I might as well replace it also.

Have you tried to cleanout the hose that returns the oil to the pan?

Great move to replace the flame trap holder. They get brittle after a while, and then they break at 9:01pm on a Friday night, assuring that you are hosed until Monday. That is how it works with me :)

I've never had to clean the oil trap or return hose, for whatever reason. As long as the seals don't drip or leak, and the oil cap stays plastered to the valve cover when I do the jiggle test, I'm satisfied that it's clear enough.

More famous last words, no doubt...

Also check the other end of the hose. It connects to a small brass fitting on the throttle body which often clogs.

Also, the small hose often clogs up. You can blow through it to test (motor oil tastes awful!). Just replace it with a piece of generic hose rated for PCV or emission control (oil-proof).
