Temperature Gauge Calibration 120-130 1965

As the years go by my temp gauge keeps reading hotter and hotter. I know I'm not running lean, I always set my timming in the same place, and the engine doesn't feel or act hot. Before I start the car already the needle is almost in the green, and when running at highway speeds its a couple of degrees left of the "H". So I'm thinking calibration, is this possible? The thermostat is fine etc....I just wnat to calibrate the gauge.

Re: Temperature Gauge Calibration 120-130 1965

patrick,

You can check your calibration, but I don't think you will be able to do anything but replace the gauge and sensor if yours is off.

There are actually three tiny numeric calibration marks on the temp gauge (on the painted display side, extreme upper top lip)- you may not be able to view these with gauge in place without removing the steering wheel and looking UP at gauge with a flashlight. Get a thermometer that will register 70-90 deg. Centigrade and display one degree gradiations. Boil up a kettle of water and take kettle and a coffee mug down to the car. If you put sensor and thermometer in hot water at the same time you can check the gauge reading and compare readings.

It may just be easier to "plug and play" another used sensor&gauge.

Re: Temperature Gauge Calibration 120-130 1965

I just broke my original gauge cap tube during a header swap (wrench slipped..doh!). Had a devil of a time finding a new/used one that worked...but found one. I made sure that it was working before I took it out of the parts car..after it was out and right before I put it in my car. that capillary tube is fragile.

new gauge reads a touch lower than my original.
