Reply Injectors 700 1991

Sorry for yelling. I'm learning as i go along! I forgot to mention that the fuel pump works. When I turn the key you can hear the pump running and I know that it has good fuel pressure, but the problem has been traced down to the fuel rail. However the injectors click but do not spray. Could it be the inj. are clogged? If so how do I go about cleaning them after I have already soaked the in acetone? Fuel regulator? and what is a hall sensor? sorry to ask so much, but I bought it for my wife...the problem is we have a new baby and i'm currently driving a coupe....it's for her guys, i'm just the guy who gets to ask the questions and turn the wrench..

Thanks very much!

Brett: go to the 2 postings on Monday night, at 11:01? and 11:13pm, by John Sargent, about "why do so many wires get grounde', or something close to that: part of your answer may be there...guy's a genius...---PD.

Re: Reply Injectors 700 1991

Brett: David brings up a good point; it is also typical of the Q-and-A techniques used here to elicit information, thence to have enough info to make an informed response (or a lucky guess) to a problem. There is a device called a fuel pressure regulator, upnext to the fuel rail: if there is fuel under pressure in it, then your injectors AREN'T getting fuel. Check that out, but be careful. If your fuel pump IS working, but your FPR is malfunctioning, signified by having fuel init under pressure, you are going to wearing a lot of gasoline in a very short period of time, DEFINITE no-smoking scenario, right?---PD.

Re: Reply Injectors 700 1991

Hey,

It's nice to see someone from so close to home on the board. I live in Oak Ridge. Do you know of any volvo clubs around the area? Maybe we can get together to do projects and stuff. Or, create a club for knoxville area. I like fiddling with my volvo's. I've got an 84 245 dl and an 86 745 gle. I've swapped the tranny out of the 745 after it went bad. I've also done other touchups, like replacing the headliner... How's yours looking?

See ya,

Nathan

Re: Reply Injectors 700 1991

The information you are providing is confusing. It is unlikely that all your injectors are clogged to the extent that none of them spray anything. There are 2 fuel pumps, one in tank and another underneath the car next to the filter. This one boosts fuel pressure to 35 psi, the intank pump merely lifts the fuel out of the tank. The fuel rail cannot fail unless it has been broken and leaks. The fuel pumps do not come on with the key but turn on only as you start to crank. I do not think you have fuel pressure. If the main pump fails and the in tank is still running fuel will still spew out of a disconnected fuel rail but it will not have any pressure behind it. May I ask again how do you know you have proper fuel pressure.
