FUEL SYSTEM 700 1990

I have a 740 twin cam with 212K+ miles. This car has always been a screamer until recently when it developed a starting problem. At any time (warm or cold) the engine will crank fine but refuses to start. If I squirt starting fluid directly into the air intake the engine starts right up and runs fine until I turn the key off and then it will crank but not start. Tried replacing the FI relay, no luck. Pumps work fine and I have good fuel flow at the injector manifold connection. I've had a mechanic check this and he said that all he could find was an oil film on an air flow sensor? Any ideas - Thanks

Re: FUEL SYSTEM 700 1990

Larry:

Check into the check valve on the fuel pump under the drivers seat and the operation of IAC. A faulty fuel pressure check valve and a slow responding IAC will cause hot start problems like you described. Check the 700/900 FAQ sections relating to hot start and performance tune problems.

Hope this helps and good luck.
