do the 940 and 850 share the same body? 900 1994

It's me again the volvo rookie. I was looking at pics of 940s and 850s etc of the same year. Did they share body styles, but have different drivetrain configerations? Are the spoilers and other exterior bits interchangable? Don't get me wrong, I'm not going for "rice" just like to know what my options are.

Re: do the 940 and 850 share the same body? 900 1994

Outside of the fact they come from the same company and share the same design intent, they are in fact, quite different. The 850/V70 (FWD) is narrower and shorter; the 940 (RWD) is bigger and has a larger, more useful, cargo area. The new V70's restore the size lost when they dropped the RWD platform after 1998.

No. The bodies share similar styling (twin brothers worked on these cars - one on the 940, one on the 850, so what'd you expect?), but they are completely different.

There are a few parts that are common - power seat controls, maybe some other little bits, but not much at all. Some things can be made to fit, like the 850R air dam or maybe a decklid spoiler. Drivetrains are wholly incompatible in the US. In Europe, there is a 5spd manual gearbox (the M90) that mates to either the older B21/23/230 series or the newer 5 and six-cylinder engines - but even then, mounting a newer engine in an older car is not plug & play.
