clutch troubles 200 1985

I have a 1985 240DL, 4 speed manual with OD, with 201,000 miles. I was driving the other day and when I depressed the clutch pedal, I heard/felt a loud click in the pedal. I released it and depressed it again at which time the cable broke. When I went to replace the cable, I noticed that the release arm for the clutch (on the side of the tranny) felt loose. I can move it back and forth with my hand with very little resistance at all. The previous owner had a new clutch put in at about 180,000 miles. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Clutch? release arm? Help!!

John

Re: clutch troubles 200 1985

probably normal. Thats why there is an adjustment in the cable. You tighten the cable until this play is almost gone. The arm would not put up any resistance until it hits the finger springs.
