blower motor and an audi question 700 1985

I need a new blower motor. any thoughts on best price, place to get one!

Audi question- my son's audi 100 1989 blower motor is going out again! I've replaced with used before, and it took about 8 hours of labor. Had to remove entire inside of car to get to it. Is there another way? I heard of a surgical method to remove the blower motor (it's located in a plastic case accessible under hood against firewall.) and to glue it back, but can't find details. Any ideas.

Any good tech forums for Audi?

Thanks.

jc

The Audi blower isn't really that bad, it's just a headache. You CAN get a dremel or a die grinder and zap a hole in the plastic that retains it. You shouldn't split the WHOLE case open (I'm talking from memory here) but you can split the top off enough to get the motor out after removing the circlip from the end of the motor case.

With the location of the blower in the Audi, you don' have to worry too much about being beautiful. Just seal the thing back up well when you are done. Adhesive caulk is good. Use something that can deal with moderate heat, though. The blower assembly IS protected from the engine heat somewhat, but not totally.

Then if I recall, you'd have cut enough of an access hole to yank the thing out. The blower wheel itself is kind of a nuisance. Use penetrating oil.

Did you have to release the evaporator housing from inside the car? it's been a while since I did one of those.

Use a new motor. The used deal with blower motors is always a bad one. You spend too many hours replacing that stuff to use an old motor.

Chris, I've done this before and an audi tech said their cost was so high that they had to remove the entire f****ng dash. Like an idiot I believed them (this was before the days of high speed internet access). Any way from checking around it now seems like it might be a managable job.

Your right. you do remove the lower passenger side air duct and a few other connections, then remove from under cowl. Thanks for your input!

Read the 700/900 FAQ via the 'features' pull down menu. NAPA has a good one for cheap. Drill some drain holes in the bottom though.

Just did this in my 88 today. Went to auto zone got the 83 chevy impala with AC or the delata 88 with AC, same part as the volvo delco unit. $18/lifetime warranty and no mods required to fit it. 7mm scoket and an 8mm to get the ECU out of the way with a philips head screwdriver for the ecu holder, and the 8mm for the fan removal off the blower motor.

Dan, was it very hard to remove the squirell cage off the motor? I've heard that it must be balanced.

Do you happen to have the part no?

Thanks,
jc

The cage just unbolts with one 8mm nut and it bolts onto the new motor in the same fashion (swap the clip thats under the cage from the old to the new). I doubt it needs balancing because it only goes on a certain way following a groove. I'll get the part # later today when i work on the car but its a motor for an 83 Chevy Impala with AC/81 Olds Delta 88 with AC etc... they all have the same part.

Thanks,

I'll check my local Autozone. They have come up with a lot of parts for this car already!
