940 Driver's Seat Removal 900 1993

So I'm driving home from work last night, fidgeting with my wedding ring which gets loose when it's cold out. Anyway, the thing slipped off of my finger and went under the driver's seat. I looked for it when I got home, but couldn't find it. I know it's under there somewhere, but there sure are a lot of nooks and crannies! I looked at the Haynes manual and the job seems pretty straightforward, but I was wondereing if anyone who's done this before had any additional tips for me. Isn't the crash sensor for the airbags under there somewhere? Should I disconnect the battery?

I'll be doing this job tomorrow. Any help or encouragement would be appreciated. Needless to say, my wife was somewhat skeptical when I told her what had happened.

Thanks in advance,

Andy De Block

Thanks to you guys and your ideas, the ring was found! The seat is supported by a sort of u-shaped bracket, at least on the side by the console. As I was going under there with a mirror, I saw a flash of gold in the bottom of the bracket. There it was! It hadn't made it to the floor. There's a hole in the side of the bracket about halfway down, next to the tunnel. The ring must have fallen through there. Found a quarter in there too.

Thanks again,

Andy De Block

Be careful and check the insides of the sliders before you start this job. As has been noted, it makes the job easier to slide the seat back and forth to access the bolts. You just want to make sure that the ring isn't in the slider when you are doing this. I have seen coins that got stuck in there, and they got MASHED!

Good luck!
Greg

How about just raising the seat? Lots of room then and no huffin and puffin to get the thing out.

Good idea, thanks!

I tried that before, but still couldn't find it. Maybe if I used a dental-type mirror? There's a lot of stuff under there!

I would try the dental type mirror before you remove the seats. The hole that the seat reatining pin sits in is just the right size for the ring to fall into(if your luck is anything like mine it will), then you'd probably be banned to the couch for life. I always lose stuff that ends up in the seat track or between the seat itself and the console. Good luck and keep us posted.

Its pretty straight forward to remove the seats. There are four bolts to front and two rear, there is also a retaining pin (looks like an upside down mushroom) directly in the middle of each track that fits into the floor board. Once you remove the bolts you have to slide the seat forward and backward to find the point where the pin slips out of thir holes. If you do this once it will become old hat. Additonally, you need to be able to move the seat backwards to get to the front bolts then forward to get to the rear bolts so disconnect the battery after you remove all the bolts. You should then be able to tip the seat back and get at anything underneath.

Thanks for the tips. The battery thing will save me some time; I would have disconnected first, then realized that I still needed it to move the seat. Much appreciated!
