245 sitting low on one side. 200 1987

My '87 245 sits slightly lower on the drivers side then on the pass. side when parked. After driving for a while it seems to level out, only to return to it's skewed position after sitting. I read something on the board a while ago about self-leveling shocks? Not sure if this pertains to my question. The suspension otherwise seems fine. I'm still fairly new to Volvo's and would greatly appreciate any insight anyone can offer. Thanks a bunch!

Cheers,
Mike.

You may have a broken coil spring in your left front strut. This is fairly common, and can go on for years un-noticed except for the listing as you describe. Check by looking in at the strut assembly even with wheel still installed and see if you can see the broken spring piece. (Jeff C.)

I doubt you have self levelling shocks and even if you did I think(?) they work in tandem so if one fails the whole system lowers. Anyway it could be anythhing suspension related. Unfortunatly the only way to fix/check a volvo is to get down there and check. I have experience with the rear suspension of 240s and blown bushing aren't always easy to diagnose, basiacally leave the car on the ground and grab various trailling/torque arms etc. and see if you feel excess play, I have seen posts that say blown trailling arm bushings cause excessive sag in the rear. If you want to replace bushings yourself go through the archives and do a search. Also i just read your post again and it's true that the symptom sounds very much like failed Nivomats, buy a manual or search the sites that give the technical data on specific years (check archive). Good luck,

Most likely worn bushings, but springs get the sags also. Doubt your beast has self leveling shocks (Nivomats)
