Oil pressure light 200 1980

I have recently had the oil warning light flicker and sometimes staying lit for 10-15 seconds at lower rpms. The car has 140k on it, runs great-doesnt leak or burn oil and oil level is near the top. Do these warning lights develope problems that would cause this-bad connection or contact. I drive 60 miles a day-one way to work and the car runs quiet and doubt it is low oil pressure. Any ideas as to what may cause this. Thanks again for any info

Yes, before you convict the motor you should check a few things. The oil pressure
switch itself can go bad and start leaking oil. The plastic cracks. Also the
wiring in your car may be original and this could be grounding out against the
engine block causing the flickering. The switch is located just behind the alternator and the wiring runs under the crank pulley. If you use very thin oil
the oil light may flicker occasionally.
