Late model B230FT in a 240dl 200 1990

I am looking for another volvo 240 or 740 series. However, I have come across a fairly nice 240dl, 1990 that needs an engine. I have already read how hard it would be to install a turbo in it from some of the older series engines, B23T, but what about a B230FT late model engine? I am speaking of the ones found in the 7 and 9 series volvos from the early to mid 90's (I think). Has anyone done this? Are there any resources on the web? What kind of work would I be looking at? I already have a turbo pulled from an '83 240, but I heard there is much work involved to install them. thaks

Late model B230FT in a 240dl 200 1990

Hey Racerx, I did this swap to my 1990 240 wagon this past summer. It was not all that hard. I used a b230ft from a 1993 940 that had overheated (got the engine for $50.00). Had to install new pistons $$$$$ and had the head worked over more $$$$$$. Found gen. III turbo from another car. Long story/short, the thing is a BLAST to drive now, surprised several BMW drivers. I can give you more info and pictures if you're interested.

First off, look up Anthony Hydes web site, hes done this.

Second, The engine- I would find a 95 engine from a 940. Probably the strongest engines, has oil squirters on pistons, extra ribbing in the block, and probably hasn't seem many years of abuse. Try and get a whole wrecked car and swap in all the computers, wiring etc. in there.

3rd. To mount the engine in the 240 body, you need to find the distributor and (some shaft? forgot its name) from a 240 (B230F) then swap that in. The distributor on a newer engine will hit the firewall.

It would be a nice project. Nothing you couldn't accomplish, unless your pretty car *not so bright*

heheh.

Good luck
Jordan

A fellow named Tim Curry, in AZ, did this. He has a website, but I don't have the address. The name "noseoil" is in the website address. Try a search.
