Mullah test results 900 1994

Found the results of the compression and leak down test done March at 171K.
compress.: cyl.#1-150 #2-75 #3-175 #4-175 #5-155 #6-100
leakdown: #1-30% #2-75%#3-13% #4-20% #5-36% #7-60%

At the time I was told after adding oil the wear was about 50-50 valves vs rings. The only thing besides the oil use is an erratic miss at idle. Some times it idles perfectly. My daughter is two weeks away from a drivers license. It just has to last for two teenagers for 3 years. All it needs a converter and O2 sensor. Good luck amigo!!!!

that big a change on the leakdown can't be that nice

why can't the T5 motor fit a 960 (rhetorical)

"leakdown: #1-30% #2-75%#3-13% #4-20% #5-36% #7-60%"

I'll tell you what really bothers me. It's that 7th cylinder. NEVER a good sign on a 6-cyl engine.

Look...960 humor.

Dan, you might make it three months. Plan on buying your teenage beginning drivers a very used Taurus, Cavalier, or other expendible car. Ask me how I know:
"I slid on the ice..."
"The red light went on and I tried to drive to a gas station..."
"I know it was leaking but I was late for class..."

Here we used the "tough love" approach: you break it and you take the bus. We bought a lot of bus passes.

A 960 will kill you financially. Forget it.

Ahh, yes those teenage years. Reminds me of the very first time I drove to high school. The family car a fire engine red 69 Pontiac Bonneville with a 428 cu. inches 390 hp. under the hood ( 8 miles to the gallon with my foot) but gas was 30 cents a gallon. While I was attending a class some gear heads car from shop class 1/4 mile away slips into gear navagates the parking lot missing everything but the side of my car.
Later at home I caught hell from the old man. "But Dad" I said "I was in class." He responds "Everyone knows you don't park on the end. Your are never driving to school again." I never did again.

My 960 has been running like this for almost a year now nearly 20,000 miles. I have always thought Tom's was abberation, a unknown event causing his headaches before he bought it On mine except for the idle one would never know, maybe I am on borrowed time. Still has strong acceleration. My fingers are crossed that besides oil there will be only minor things in the future.

I know one thing Tom should sell his car to Brandon. A few neutral drops would make Christine scream. I can only imagine what he could do.

I have found that our insurance rates (with a young male driver in the household) will also kill you financially. The young male driver in our household is currently walking or riding the bus, but the car was not wrecked. I don't pay anyone else's traffic tickets.

I absolutley agree, regardless of this engine problem. Many times on the BB I have related the advice I was given by my auto insurance agent years ago. This is, when it comes to cars for teenage drivers, you buy the most reliable and safest car you can afford to throw away. Insure it only for liability (unless you're loaded) and above all, let the teenager sign the title without you. If, something unfortunate happens (naw, not to my kid...), you will not be legally liable, and a teenager typically does not have deep pockets. Follow this advice.

But if you have any reason to believe that your kid is not a safe driver when you turn him/her loose, you will hear the term "negligent entrustment" after the wreck, regardless of how you titled the car you provided. Whether or not you buy collision, comprehensive, and all that or not, do not skimp on the liability coverage, and get just as much uninsured, underinsured and medical pay coverage as they will sell you. Whaddya gonna do when your kid is hospitalized in a wreck caused by some other kid whose dad got him a separate cheapskate-limits policy? Good luck surviving the kid's teenage years.

B230? 900 1994

I mean I KNOW. "We" only learned a couple of months ago that you need to pull over when you have a flat tire. The detail was not mentioned in Driver's Ed.(This is National Honor Society, Girl Scout Golden and stratospheric SATs).

Do you think a Taurus (transmission/cyl. heads)or a Cavalier (everything) is less costly and less trouble than say a well used 240-7xx? I drove her '88 Merc wagon back from the repair shop last week (it locked in gear) it was AWFUL. I would take the bus, myself. Have a line on a nice 760iT. Am I crazy? Chris indicates here are piles of B230s and AWs around.

Yes, crazy to give a teenager a 760. They're money pits. 900 1994

Find a 740.
