dash dumby light 200 1982

Hello All, The dash dumby light that tells you that you have a burned out bulb somewhere comes on when you turn on the headlights in low beam position. When switching to high beam it goes out. I have checked everything single light and they are working fine. I have thought of putting a little piece of tape over the light so it doesn't shine in my face at night. Any ideas????

Thanks for the help with the radio ground problem. THe Radio is working prefect.

THanks again VM 82 240 w/75,000 orignal miles! Fiend Machine

Stupid Bulb Failure Sensor.....My sensor went bad and instead of telling me a Brake light was out it caused me to have no Brake lights at all AND it gave me no indication (not very safe). I found the wire from the brake switch and spliced it into the wires that run to the brakes, bypassing the whole kit and kaboodle. Just another gimick to go bad in my opinion.

the prvious posts are good advice. make sure you have common manufacturer bulbs and make sure the contacts are clean so ther e is no added current drain on one side over the other.

I have driven a sixty thousand miles with a piece of black tape on my dash. Don't use duct tape, it leaves a sticky residue. Black tape the high beam indicator and turn your interior lights down for excellent night-visibility. Your problem could be fixed by buying two brand new bulbs- the light indicates a deviation in resistance between the two siades of head lights, whether from different brand headlights or a difference in age between HLs. Don't be afraid of tape, your car will have 250,000 miles, and be old and quirky soon enough. If you drive it.

That thing is unreliable at best. It just takes the smallest mismatch in loads and it comes on. Plus mine always flickered when I turned something on, like the wipers. My solution was to remove the bulb.

Are both headlamps the same type and brand? If not, replace both. They're cheap.

The high beams are not part of the bulb failure warning system. That would mean that you have the low beam filament in one of the outer headlights out. If not, then try pulling off and putting on the connectors to those lights to remove corrosion & crud.

The BFWS light comes on when the current through the right side lights varies from the current for the left side lights. Brake lights, lo beams, tail lights, and (I think) that's what's in the system.

Good Luck,

Bob
