Clutch replacement 200

Just replaced a clutch cable, clutch, pressure plate, and throw out bearing and
when I depress the clutch predal it does not seem to disengage the clutch. The
pedal travel is shorter than usual and it does not have the normal feel. As careful as I was I am beginning to flush with embarrassment and frustration that I may have installed the clutch plate backwards.

Before I start back in does anyone have any ideas for other possible problems or tests that will confirm/deny that the clutch plate is the problem? Thanks.

Did you put the bearing in the fork correctly? I have put the bearing wrong on other cars and I didn't end up with enough adjustment on the cable.

It's possible to put the disc in bassackwards in a 140, so I'm guessing it is in a 240 as well. Of course, you know how I know, right. I think the other posting -you gotta take it off and do it again - is right.

When you fastened the pressure plate with the disc inside what happened. I don't think you can reverse the disc. ? Check the cable adjustment. If you do have to R & R, surface the flywheel and new rear main seal.

The recommendation to replace the main rear seal was repeated again to me after reading your message. I've only replace this in the past when the engine is out of the car for a total "make-over". What is the best / recommended way to remove the old seal from an intact engine? Is is just a matter of prying it out?

I'm glad you mentioned resurfacing the flywheel as well. Since it looks like I will be removing the trans again I will take the flywheel out to be touched up. Thanks.

Yes pry it out. Replacing it you MUST be more careful. Set it in place and tap it using a seal driver or make one up. I've also heard of car nuts having the flywheel/clutch/pressure plate re-balanced.

If you must remove and reinstall the clutch, BE SURE to also install a new rear main seal. It's criminal to not replace the seal while you're already in there.

Did you maybe adjust hte clutch calbe wrong when you installed it? Down at the bellhousing there is an adjustment.

Just a cheap and easy idea.
