HELP on '85 240 Turbo Warm start!!!! 200 1985

Hi

I have '85 240 Turbo. I have been having some warm start problem. I checked FAQ and old posts, but I could not find the same condition.

After I drove the car and turn off the engin for 15-20 min., I can start engin immediately most of time. But if I press the accelerator or put the transmission to "R" or "D", then the engin dies. Then I have to crank about 20sec. before the engin starts.(Sometimes I have to press the accelerator while I am cranking.)

Any idea what I should look for? I have been replaced the fuel distributor and accumulator.

thank in advance!

Do you have adequate power, gas mileage and does it boost easily?
I dont think you have a fuel problem then. or a warm start problem per say since you say it starts most of the time.

how does it idle warm, cold, in gear, neutral, park?

it sounds like the idle control motor is not doing its job entirely. IE when the car is put in Reverse or drive.
that is what I would check

take care

hope this helps

Luke,

Thank you for your information.

I am not familiar with the idle control motor. What does it do? My car dies when I press the accelerator also.

thanks,

HELP on '85 240 Turbo Warm start!!!! 200 1985

Welcome.

The idle Control Motor (many various other names for it) regulates the idle when the throttle plate is closed. The microswitch on the throttle body detects the closed throttle and sends a signal to the CIS system, which sends a signal to the idle motor to open more or less to control the idle. This is also how the idle is higher when cold and lower when warm (although mine does not do this)

It dies when u press the accelerator also? Hurm. is this only when warm or does it do that when cold too?

take care

Luke,

Thank you for your explanation of the idle control motor.

My car's idle is almost constant (~900rpm) regardless the temperature. And this is ONLY happen when the car is warm! HElp!!!
