Replacing my '89 760's stock Alpine tape deck with a Sony 1000 CD player (no amp in this CD unit). Power from the stock Alpine receiver unit to the tape deck is via a factory 9-pin round plug, so I guess I need to find the 12v wires in the harness. My CD changer wiring diagram shows four wires: 2 positives, 1 ground and 1 amp (which I won't be using).

Can anybody tell me which wire(s) I want from the harness? And, BTW, why does my changer wiring diagram show 2 positive wires?

Most car stereos have two positive leads. One constant (to keep all the memory functions) and the other switched by the ignition.

I believe your 760 is similiar to my 740. The back of the stock radio should have that round din plug that you mentioned, as well as a rectangular plug. The round plug connects the radio to the separate amp, mounted under the driver knee bolster. From the amp, there is another harness that runs to the speakers. The rectangular plug on the back of the stock radio contains the two pos leads, ground, antena power, etc.. Use a multimeter to figure out which is which.

To install the aftermarket radio, you take the power (ground and etc.) from the rectangular plug, but then you need to fabricate a harness to connect your aftermarket radio's speaker outputs to the speaker harness (ie connector) that is attached to the factory amp. It's about a four foor run.

I hope this makes some sense. I spent a little time converting my 740 back to the stock look after I bought it.
