Stalling 700

My 740T (215K) has for a long time stalled out when I am creeping slowly, such as waiting in a line or traffic. It happens when I remove my foot from the accelerator and press on the brake. This does not depict the same symptoms like a fuel pump relay since that tends to occur at speed (and I replaced a while back). It seems to be vacuum related as the rpms drop off when I push on the brake and then either stalls or returns to idle. Anyone with same problem or know of fix?

Hi "D",

Stalls when braking, eh? Have a look at the check valve in the vacuum line to the manifold from the brake servo. If this is faulty it will allow excess air into the inlet manifold when you apply the brakes, thus causing momentary lean running and stalling. This is probably mounted either in the servo end of the hose or on the servo itself in the "socket" where the hose plugs in. It's unlikely to be broken but they can get gummed up. A good clean in petrol/WD40/beer/your favourite solvent should clean it up.

Good luck,

Big Rich.

What is your idle speed? It should be 750rpm.
Check the throttle position switch and idle air motor. There is much info about these in the 700/900 FAQ section
