a direct questions about my speedo 200 1978

i put a screwdriver and was able to rotate my odo: so the head works

i replaced my speedo cable (only to realize the old one still worked too): so the cable works

how do i test the part between the cable and tranny? whats it called? what are some tell-tale signs of a problem with it? the only test i can think of is driving with my head under the car so i can watch it spin. quite impractical.

If you disconnect the cable at the dash and drive the car, you will be able to tell if the transmission is connected to the cable and making it spin by feeling the end of the cable. I got to admit, you idea of driving while hanging out the door and watching the tranny makes for some interesting mental pictures!
