Bolt for lower trailing arm bushing....$28???? 200

So I'm getting together what I need to replace the rear trailing arm bushings on my '89 wagon and somebody says it might be a good idea to have an extra bolt in case the old one is shot, stripped and not usable. I said okay, why not? How much could a bolt cost? At the local Volvo dealer...$28 each for the big bushing bolt, and $7 apiece for the smaller front ones. Plus $5 for each nut. I'm having a heart attack. So can I get a same size bolt from the hardware store if I need one?

If you DO get stuck, you can get Grade 8+ hardware from McMaster-Carr, an industrial supply firm which now offers on-line sales. DO NOT settle for common hardware-store nuts and bolts! And don't spend $28 on a single volvo bolt.

I have replaced my trailing arm bushings before and never needed NEW ones and I do not think you will as well. Unless you Smacked them on a curb. Also replace the Torque Rod Bushings with poly..only poly! www.fcpgroton.com ask for Nick. I use them all the time! Have Fun,

if you find that you need either of the nuts or bolts e-mail me, i'll hook you up fast. ( odenweller@hotmail.com )if your deeling with the bushing that is pressed into the axle housing, make sure that you use a proper instalation tool, an air chisel is very handy for removing the old bushings. not a hard job with the rite tools.good luck

You certainly could get a replacement bolt from a shop other than the volvo parts counter. I would try online parts dealers first for a few quotes on the exact Volvo part numbers, and if still too expensive try a GOOD fastener dealer. You MUST be certain of the "hardness" rating of each bolt and nut. 8.8 is a typical hardness rating for automotive use. The suspension bolts might have a higher spec hardness. I've used hardware store bought bolts for things like alternators only to find they WILL break under normal use rather quickly. No fun.
