Moving to Austin anyone there? 200

Hey there volvo people, I've been on the list for a few years and what will now be three cities-Chicago, Plaquemine, LA and now Austin TX. The board has always been a great place to be.

When I visited Austin I saw lots of Volvos including a fairly altered late 80's 240 wagon that was for sale (BBS wheels and other body stuff). I'm looking for volvo friends. I'll be working for the state there in the Texas Historical Commission, I'll be doing some design work for the Texas Main Street program.

I'll be taking three 240's to Austin a '92 244, an '84 245TI and an '82 242TI (with fresh wiring harness, the car's for sale). I'm also interested in perhaps a supportive mechanic, I do a lot of work but sometimes I let someone else do it, good places to live, a house to buy, schools etc. any pointers would be great. I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks to all, Josh Lasserre

Hi Josh,

I've been in Austin for about 8 months now with my 2 volvos (oh yeah and with my family too). I do most of my own work. The dealer in town is Roger Beasley. I used them for my TX state inspection and they seemed very helpful and responsive. I had some A/C work done at Austin Vol-Tech, an independent Volvo only outfit. They seemed pretty cool and did a good job with the work. http://www.vol-tech.com/

Give yourself a couple weeks to aclimate to the roads here. The way the roads are set up here is a little odd...I felt like I was going to get killed for the first couple of weeks, especially in combo with Austin style driving (i.e. cross over 4 lanes of traffic w/out signaling to exit)

-Ted
