760 is kicking my ass, Blown up engine X2 700

I purchaced a 760 turbo that I found on eaby. Drove it a mile and bam a hole in the block. I finaly towed the car to SC with my mom's 940. Now for the new part of the story. I just bought an 85 740 turbo engine with 100k on it that the mechanic said would be a strong engine to freshen and go with. The head was removed and the 1st and 2nd cyl are worn alot. From what I understand 30mm over may not even clear it all up. So now I have to get new pistons, rings, bearings, and a gasket set. Does anyone know a good (cheap) place to get these parts?
Thanks

Get a '90 740T/760T engine. Any earlier than that and you have the weak 9mm conrods...

I think that a good, low mileage used motor will be more cost effective and certainly less hassle. A few years back I paid $500 for an 85K mile B230F, including distributor, starter, alternator, and a few other goodies. Freshened it up with new seals, timing belt, and a waterpump and dropped it right in. No problems.

Check with your local Volvo recycler/salvage yard.

30 mm over won't clean it up? 30 mm is about an inch and a quarter and
would be WELL into the water jacket!! Better talk to someone who KNOWS
what he is talking about!

Engines are normally bored 0.25 mm over (about 0.010") or a milimeter and
a half max for repair/overhaul. Going to a bigger bore might take you to
as much as 8mm over or so (B18 to B20) or 3+ mm (B20 to 2130cc) but
nobody goes 30mm over. Could it have been 30 mils? (0.030" = 3/4 mm)

That is only twelve thousandths. If you are going to take it down,
go ahead and bore it to 0.5 mm over. (Hard to imagine what would wear
a Volvo bore that much, though, unless a wrist pin came loose or
some such.)

Try www.newandusedvolvoparts.com They also have a salvage operation, maybe you can get a clean motor from there. Ask for Frank, he seems knowledgable about volvos.

Try a 93-95 motor; they are usually a better bet. An 85 is the weakest of the B230s. Plenty of the weak ones have gone 250k miles, but why bother. The 85-88/89 motors are particularly known to throw rods (hole in the block). Even 89 to 92 may develop oval cylinder bores. Might cost more, but why run the risk? If it is low enough miles, you can just service it and drop it in. Plus with a turbo, you get the better manifold and more responsive turbo if you get a motor with all accessories.

I have to agree...ive got an early B230 in my 85 765, and I cant help but wonder if it will throw a rod....When i do build a motor, 93-95 is definatly the way to go. The late K motor is the stongest one to build. Ive heard of some guys in sweeden cranking 500HP out of those motors. They dont run very long, but thats gotta tell you something.

I already bought this other engine, so I think I have to work with it. Can I steal rods from a post 90 engine and put them in mine? Someone was saying chevy rods or somthing like that, but that is 500$, that I don't have.
