Manual transmission fluid question 140-160 1969

I have a '69 144 with a M40 transmission, and the oil needs to be changed. Does anyone know if using synthetic oil in a transmission gives any significant benefit?

I just put RedLine MTL in my M40 and the difference is night and day.
Not only does it shift way better, its not nearly as whiny.

I changed over to Redline MTL in my 164 with M 410 about a year ago. Shifting is unchanged from summer to winter and generally smoother than regular 30 weight oil.

What you *don't* want to do is use synthetic gear oil- it's too slippery for the syncros to work.
B&M and Redline make manual transmission fluid that is great

I doubt if it helps much at this late date.
I don't think it really matters much. You might extend its life
some but considering it is already 33 years old I think that it
would have been a lot better to start it out on the stuff in 69,
    before it was even made!
(No, doesn't make any sense to me, either.)
