240 dl putters out of the blue, no power now 200 1985

Out of the blue my car started to sputter and would not go over 10 mph. There was nothing other than a loud exhaust sound prior to this that was symptomatic.Now the car is not turning over and I left it at work. The rotor cap looks good, what else can it be. May be something to do with fuel supply? Please e-mail @ chefdino@optonline.net
