Car backfired, nearly died and seemingly is ok???? 900 1991

940 SE, B 230FT engine. Cruising home from a short trip, it sort of cut out, back on and started mildly backfiring, finally quit running, but restarted. Revved it up and make it home, but am nervous. Checked all hoses etc, car has had a complete tune by me, and I mean complete. Fuel level was at 3/4 down.

Any ideas?? Wondering about resistor pack. Unplugged and replugged. Also looked at power stage. Crank position sensor is only one year old. Almost acted like it ate some bad fuel, cleared and runs again. Didn't see anything quite like this in the FAQ.

Thanks in advance,

dick

Fuel pump relay? That sounds a lot like it could be that... starved for fuel. The backfire would go right along with that too since the engine computer would be trying to compensate for the "misunderstood" air mass.
