Check Engine Light...Surprise!! 700 1990

Well, I now work at a Volvo dealership!

Anyhow, a mechanic there asked me if, on my current quest for little low-cost horsepower tricks, I'd removed the fine metal mesh from both sides of the air/fuel/oxygen sensor on top of my airbox. I said no, and...well, he told me to remove it but to be careful of touching the little fishing-line type wires (the actual sensor)

I didn't touch the wires with anything, I'm running a K&N filter, but after I reinstalled everything, the bloody check engine light came on...

The car seems to run fine, infact a bit "sharper", BUT I still have the mesh just in case...

Any ideas as to what the light may be??? (And no, the car is in perfect condition and was running excellent before!!)

Thanks, cheers...and other thanks!!

Check Engine Light...Surprise!! 700 1990

When I disconected the airmass meater clip on my mom's 94 940 then started it I had a check engine light. I just reconected the clip and reset the light, it was all good.

I haven't had any troubles with my MAF screens removed... actually removed mine because the airbox side one fell out and was lying in the air filter.....

If I were you, I'd put the metal grates back in the air mass meter. There is a thread on the turbobricks messageboard all about this. The AMM was designed with the grates for a reason. There is a link to a website explaining all about it, but I don't have it. It was on the t-bricks thread though. The performance improvements from doing that add up to about nothing, and you just put your engine at risk (this is what the website basically explained).

Found the link:

Yeah, it seems like a good solution to me. Now my next point of "wondering" is because there are tons of air mass meters from the S80/S60/S70 laying around the dealership, are they compatable with my car? Or will the computer just get confused!!! Thanks

Oh, and stay tuned: I'm planning on swapping my engine fan for an electric one from the S60...I wanna keep my car "Volvo"...
