Strange noise at idle, 1993 945 Turbo 900 1993

Hello
My 1993 945 Turbo makes a high pitched noise at idle, intermittently. It goes away instantly if you blip the throttle. Sometimes it comes back, sometimes it stays quiet after that. I can't tell where it's coming from. Can anyone help me???

I had a simliar noise...with similar symptoms....it ended up being the AC compressor....

I have the same high pitched noise at idle that Chris describes on his 1993 940. The dealer thought it could be the air pump but the car wouldn't make the noise when taken to the dealers.

Get a rubber hose 3 or 4 feet long, hold one end to your ear and aim the other at the various components that could make noise. You may be able to locate the source.

Keep the hose away from moving parts.

If the noise happens right after start-up, could be alternator, they often make noise because of the charging load after using the starter.

This may be way off, but I had a similar fault some time ago. I also noticed that when I just touched the accelerator pedal, the turbo boost would dip slightly and the noise would stop. What it turned out to be was the vac pipe that comes from the inlet manifold to the boost gauge had been worn through by the accelerator pedal! Once repaired the noise went away.
