'88 245 - 3rd brake light power source? 200

'88 245 center brakelight (in tailgate window) has no current when brake pedal depressed and outboard brakelights are on. I've replace hinge wiring harnesses and tested for continuity. Can anyone tell me where the center light's power originates? Is it connected through the bulb sensor? Rear brakelights both work but bulb-out light in dash illuminates when brakes are used.

Hi!....for the 3rd brakelight, it's a straight shot from the bulb failure sensor, pin 5, to the bulb holder......hope this helps...j.

I am compiling notes for future reference. Is this the same for a 1991 744?

Thanks,

David

According to my Bentleys manual the extra light is wired to the left hand brake light (possibly yellow and gray from each merging into a connector behind the tail light wires). Not sure how the bulb out sensor circuit compensates for this apparent imbalance though, possibly this is done internally in the sensor.

Thanks to all for the responses. The wires at the light are blue and black as noted in one reply. I will check the continuity between bulb-out sensor and light connectors first as that is likey the problem. The sensor may also be damaged because of prior shorted tailgated wiring to this light. I have the same problem with the rear window wiper motor circuit - new wiring harness is fine, but no current at the connectors under headliner. Disconnected somewhere, but I cannot locate any intermediate connections.
