I have to spray starter fluid in the air intake to get it started, then it runs fine? sound like a fuel pump? Its a 245 DL K jet mechanical fuel injection

Hi there! I had a similar problem on my '83 245GLT. Turned out to be the fuel pump, the main one, found on the driver's side of the car beneath the rear passenger section. My mechanic back in NY hit the pump a few times with a wrench and presto!, the car started right up. He said the pump wasn't dead yet, but was going fast. I had it replaced and it cured the problem. Just my two cents on my own personal experiences. Hope this helps. :-)

do those have a cold start injector if so check that... possibly an electrical or fuel related relay problem.. again I've just recently got back under the hood of a volvo so everything is slowing starting to come back to me.. so don't bitch at me if what I just said is completely wrong... so far just the knowlegde from my 240 turbo days has seeped back in.. my general volvo knowledge is on his way but he's always late

try manually activating the cold start injector... on my bertone the previous owner put in a switch to manually active it... most likely the cold start injector itself isn't bad but rather the relay that activates it... rip the top off and manually push the actual relay so that it makes contact.. if it activates yer cold start injector you probably need to clean the contacts where the wiring harness plugs into it and also resolder all the connections on the cuircit board to fix any cold solder joints and what not.. well off to go set the idle on my bertone..
