Turbo Help Needed - 230FT 700

Hello all,
I have a 1987 740 Turbo. I recently put a used engine in this car. I used the turbo I had from my old engine. The problem I am having is it seems like the car now has a serious lack of low end power. The turbo has to work extra hard just to get the car to move(turbo kicks in awful quick). Once the turbo is engaged the car does fine. I can't remember the turbo having to work this hard previously. I feel like something isn't "set" quite right. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
RLG

Garrett or Mitsu? Mitsu is smaller and the boost comes on faster. Garrett is larger and has a higher top end boost.

How does the turbo spin, freely or stiff?

Check the timing, and the fuel pressure. Id replace the fuel filter if it hasnt been done recently. Also ive heard that if the knock sensor on the side of the block, located between cyl. 2-3 is not torqued properly, it can cause weird problems. You also may have the timing belt off 1 tooth. The car will run like this, but depending on which way its off it can be weird too. Lemme know what you find.
