Turn Signal Covers 700

Hello fellow bricksters! I was just curious about something thats been on my mind lately: why is it that on most of the older volvos (boxy-ish ones, not the newer ones) that they usually are missing both or one turn signal cover?!?! I've noticed the cover is glued or something onto the chrome part of the inside that holds the bulb, so I was curious if over time the glue just gave out, or maybe the glue was faulty, or maybe someone goes around stealing turn signal covers. Whatever the reason, I was just wondering if anyone had the same mishap.

Model airplane glue holds them on just fine. Just hope you notice before it falls on the road!

Many of these Volvo materials issues become annoying at an age that most cars never see. Put another way, the same materials in the dash, headliner, lenses, etc, easily outlast the typical Ford, Honda, Toyota, etc and never attract attention as they fail in the scrapyard.

Next time you see a four-headlight 740, remind yourself that it is at least twelve years old. There are lots around Ottawa, but very few other cars (except Mercedes) that old.

Yes the turn signal covers are glued together. Over time the just naturally come apart, due to heat, cold, and vibrations. Most of the time you can repair the turn signals yourself by thoroughly cleaning both halves, and using a good, weather resistant glue. I just repaired one of my turn signals the other week, only cost was half an hour plus some silicone glue. Better than the $40USd for a repro one.
